Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
