Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended four early break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
