The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was convicted of planning a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the judge said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His son, his son Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could "pray for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our land."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's decision was the chance of his move to embassies near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of organizing to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from Bolsonaro's home.

Global Responses

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist United States President Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being held in a national police facility in the capital and will experience a custody hearing on the next day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on last Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he required ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a scheme which encompassed plans to murder the current president and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it didn't receive the backing of the armed forces officials. Lula was inaugurated without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed public facilities in the capital, Brasília.

The law enforcement took action and around fifteen hundred individuals were arrested.

The justices found that the rioters had been provoked by him whose plan, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years later after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the next presidential race.
