The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer game identity.
The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete text from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our fans.
The trust in this project increases every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to follow.
David

Title Details and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description reads. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and trust your group can secure victory? The choice is up to you."
The game lacks an official release date or supported systems, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as development progresses.
